BALA HISAR FORT
Bala Hisar also known as Qila Bala Hisar is one of the
historic places of Peshawar. Peshawar is the capital city of Khyber
Pakhtunkhawa. The word Bala Hisar is from Dari Persian language, meaning “elevated
or high fort”. The name was given by Pashtun King Timur Shah Durrani, who used
the fort as the winter capital of Afghan Durrani Empire and in summer the
capital being in Kabul. The Sikhs who conquered Peshawar in the 19th
century named it Samir Garh in 1834 but the name didn’t get any fame.
It is believed that Babur first built the fort here in
1526 after capturing Peshawar. Bala Hisar was
destructed and reconstructed several times by conquerors, worriers, invaders
and kings.
Impressed with its architectural beauty
and glorious primitive history, Founder of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad
Ali Jinnah, King Raza Shah Pehlawi of Iran, Mahatma Fatima Jinnah, Mrs. John F Kennedy and Lady
Diana were among the few dignitaries who visited the fort on different
occasions.
The Fort is a historical place and has been well
maintained. There are museum in the fort
which have a collection of antique weapons, dresses, rare photographs and many
other items. The fort has beautiful sprawling lawns which show hearth touching
view in spring season.
The Fort has been the Headquarter of the Frontier corps
since 1949. It was closed for tourists but it is opened since 29 December 2018
for days in a week for general public and tourists by the ordered of PM Imran
